The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This is a very fine adaptation, but as is the case with many remakes, I couldn't shake the original from my mind. From time to time I would lose myself in this feature - a testament to one of my most beloved film-makers!
This version is darker - more detailed, but has lost the ability to blindside you with it's captivating tale - ingrained in the memory from the original films and moreover, the novels.
This version is very well cast. The two leads make the roles of 'Mikael' and 'Lisbeth' their own - no easy task. It's exceedingly well made - highlighting and expanding upon certain elements from the original, while exorcising others(having not read the books, I couldn't say which were more important or beneficial to the story).
Overall, the original(with far less budget, I'm sure) felt more grounded. The remake is polished to an 'industrial' shine - from the fantastic soundtrack by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross to the Bond-like opening sequence(to what has become a similarly recognised phenomenon)!
I believe their is room for improvement with the later two adaptations, and should the same team return, so too would I - 4/5!
